moroheiya (chorchorus) no ohitashi topped with katsuobushi (bonito flakes). to be eaten with soy sauce. ohitashi refers to any leafy greens that are quickly boiled and drained. moroheiya is sold in supermarkets in Japan, though i think it’s kind of rare in the U.S. the leaves are sort of slimy like okra, and are rich in betacarotene, iron, calcium, vitamin C, and antioxidants. with its origins in Egypt, this vegetable is said to have been eaten by Cleopatra.
