myoga— a type of ginger native to Japan. its flowerbuds and shoots are eaten chopped, with katsuobushi (bonito flakes), and soy sauce drizzled on top. also delicious with tofu, or as an accompaniment to somen (cold noodles). in Japanese folklore, there is an episode in which a traveler ate myoga at a restaurant, and found it so delicious that he lost his memory, and forgot his wallet at the place.
