anpan—bun with sweet azuki bean filling. a random finding in a totally local and non-Japanese supermarket on Big Island, Hawai’i. made by the Punalu’u Bake Shop, the “southernmost bakery in the United States”.
edit: the bun part was made of sweetbread, and the inside was much sweeter than Japanese-made anpan…which was incredibly satisfying in its own unique way.
